The BYD Seal offers 150 kW DC fast charging, but what does this mean in real-world terms? We explain charging speeds, times, and how to maximize your charging experience.
DC Fast Charging Explained
The BYD Seal can charge at up to 150 kW on DC fast chargers. This means you can charge from 10% to 80% in about 26 minutes under ideal conditions. However, actual charging speed depends on several factors: battery temperature, state of charge, and charger capability.
Charging Curve Explained
EV charging isn't linear. The Seal charges fastest between 10-50% state of charge, where it can sustain close to 150 kW. Above 50%, charging speed gradually decreases to protect the battery. Above 80%, it slows significantly - this is why we recommend charging to 80% for road trips rather than 100%.
Home Charging Options
For home charging, the Seal supports up to 11 kW AC charging. With a 7 kW home wallbox, a full charge takes about 9-10 hours. Most owners charge overnight and wake up to a full battery. If you have a 3-phase power supply, you can install an 11 kW wallbox for faster home charging (7-8 hours).
Real-World Charging Times
Here are realistic charging times for the BYD Seal: Home charging (7 kW): 0-100% in 9-10 hours. DC fast charging 10-80%: 26 minutes. DC fast charging 10-100%: 45-50 minutes. These times can vary based on temperature and charger condition.
